The Bavarian alpine regions: famous for “picture postcard” nature settings like turquois-green lakes, forests and snow-covered mountains in the back, and the “Bavarian” sky in blue and white (the Bavarian “national colors”) above. We explored all of this while staying at the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. There are lots of attractions in this area, and one particularly famous is the castle “Neuschwanstein”, supposedly the blueprint for the Disney castle (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleeping_Beauty_Castle). The “Voelklingen Ironworks” is a stunning document of industrialization, of gone industrial times. Nowadays, the remains of the Voelklingen Ironworks are displayed together with changing, but always very interesting art exhibitions. With good reason, the Voelklingen Ironworks was selected as World Cultural Heritage Center by the UNESCO in 1994, and is an anchor point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage (ERIH).
